The 12 principles of Korimana:
• Whakatuwhera – Understand that no two people see the same things. One person’s uniqueness is buried deep in the soils of universal truths. Everything is connected to everything else in some way therefore to understand something we need first to understand a universal connection. The mystery of all endings is found in the birth of new beginnings.
• Whakatauki – Learn and understand the value of existential wisdoms preserved in Te Ao Maori for thousands of years. The reasons behind the universe and the purpose for our beings. A sense of personal voice and agency. The interwoven fabric of traditional and cultural elements.
• Whakamoemiti – Give thanks every day for our lives no matter what, knowing that we are part of a universal existence and display gratitude for the opportunities to grow and learn. Desire knowledge and seek understanding of who you are and where you came from. Understand that you are a seed sown in the universe and that you will never be lost
• Whakapono – Feeling safe is about remembering that we are who we are and there is only one soul like you on the planet and in the universe. Embrace the power of your word and know that what you have to say makes a difference.
• Whakamana- Feeling valued is about understanding that the way we present and phrase our truths is as important as the truth itself. Respect self and otherness and know the things that lead to well-being and the things that lead to destruction.
• Whakamaori – Learning Te Reo Maori language is most opportune now than ever before to all cultures and is the best pathway to fully understanding whakamaori, however transposing intentional Te Reo Maori customs and practices in peer support is proven a valued resource.
• Whakamarama – Understanding self-awareness from a universal perspective is very powerful and personal empowerment very awe inspiring. Study significant events and responses that occurred in our history and understand that our stories have universal dynamics of empowerment that can benefit all mankind.
• Whakatupu – Learn and understand that our growth is universal and that our lives are connected to everything else in the universe. Learn and understand how the ebb and flow of the ocean tide is consistent with our growth.
• Wharetapawha - Learn and understand the Maori dynamic of living on a Pa adhering to natural balances based on circular meanings. Our being is universal, and our approaches are collective, that is the only way we exist.
• Whanauora – Learn and understand that whanauora is the collective existence of a balanced community of people living in the realms of the circle of life around a centred Poutokomanawa that connects the heavenly elements with the earthly ones.
• Whanaungatanga- Learn this in Korimana by sound association and the realms of music, WAIATA and the familiar sounds (birds, manu Te Ao Maori) and how close and distant relationships are all sound worthy.
• Whakatikanga- Know the quality of our lives depend on the quality of conversation we engage with and that it is what we do more than what we say that counts. Acknowledge that the Treaty of Waitangi is the principle founding document of Aotearoa, New Zealand.
